John Stockton, David Robinson, Coach Vivian Stringer, Coach Jerry Sloan and Michael Jordan were enshrined in Springfield.

To say the speeches were captivating is an understatement. Each shared experiences, thanked many people that helped them along the way and reminisced about their great careers. The one thing that was great to see however, was that they all showed some humility up on stage as they were touched by the honor. Yes, both Coach Sloan and Michael Jordan had a few other things to say but that was them being competitors as well as entertaining a lively induction audience. Jordan talking about his motivation and comparing it to people continually putting wood on his fire to burn to keep him hungry was a great analogy. It is no coincidence that before the world knew of Michael Jordan he went to Five-Star Basketball Camp.

Each member of this hall of fame class either left their mark on this league, their organization, the sport or all of the above.

David Robinson was one of the greatest athletes to ever play the center position as well as an amazing man in the community.

John Stockton is amongst the greatest to ever play the point guard position as his unselfishness and toughness will never be forgottenin Salt Lake City.

Coach Vivian Stringer will always be a symbol of class and courage not just in woman’s college basketball but in the game of basketball, anywhere.

Coach Jerry Sloan, who coached Stockton is the symbol of toughness and modesty as a head coach. 21 years as the head coach of the Jazz with two finals appearances and a lifetime getting players to reach their potential.

And of course the greatest to ever play the game, Michael Jordan. He came into the league at the perfect time as the torch was passed to him by two legends in the 1980’s. Just when the NBA thought it had reached a pinnacle he took it to new heights. To watch Jordan on a consistent basis, especially in the post-season was a privilege, don’t forget the mountain he climbed to become a champion.

Each of these individuals have made the world a better place through the game we all love.

As far as basketball, we represent the strongest and most historical basketball teaching company in the history of the country. This is not something we take lightly and all of our coaches have been trained by Five-Star coaches as all Five-Star coaches have. They are not hired independently or after receiving a resume and granted an interview. They are former players who have grown up in the Five-Star family and know the Five-Star way of teaching. This way is not just doing drills or telling children to “bend their knees” and to  “keep their heads up”. It is more than that as we not only teach the “what” but also the “why” we do things. Five Star has always prided itself on being basketball educators. That is why we have remained at the top of Basketball development for over 40 years.

The Manhattan Power 6th grade boys captured the program’s first tournament championship at the Hooperstown summer open the weekend of June 6 and 7. The team’s 3-0 record in the 12 and under age bracket was a culmination of the teams hard work and team building that they started together this past March. In only their first season the Power are destined to keep growing as each player on the team has clearly raised their level of play since day one. The team will finish it’s 2009 spring season with an exciting evening at the New Jersey Nets practice facility on June 24 th as they will take on New Jersey’s own C-Mek all-star’s.

After a first year featuring Five-Star basketball programming in New York City we decided to create the Manhattan Power which is our competitive AAU/Travel program stemming from Five-Star Basketball NY. We have started three teams which include a 6th grade boys team, a 5th grade girls team and a 8th-9th grade boys team.

The Manhattan Power have already begun entering tri-state area tournaments at Island Garden and Hooperstown and playing games against the likes of Yorkville and Riverside Church. The teams have already started competing in games and tournaments in the tri-state area this Spring.

Since 1966, no organization has had a bigger impact on the sport of basketball. Through its camps, Five-Star has given thousands of its graduates the opportunity to play college and pro ball - More than any other organization out there. Some of our alumni include Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Patrick Ewing, Vince Carter, Kevin Durant, and Michael Beasley.
